7075, 7076... Whatever It Takes

Don't know if this was worth the effort, but was in a chatty mood. Come along for the ride as I sort out a few little things on a Factory Scorpa. We'll do bad things, I promise.

  • Simple question, why didn't you just add some weld to the frame side and file it back? Just curious as there may be something obvious I'm missing.

  • "No other pegging, except foot, is allowed" - hey now c'mon, no kink-shaming here! We're all gentlemen, there's no reason to exclude someone just because he occasionally likes for his partner to take the reins, as it were... Do you what you like with a person what consents, gents! The world's too small and life's too short to feel bad about what makes you feel good.

  • Maybe helpful! I onced had a similar experience with a Renault Clio Sports car, I had just changed the pads but the owner complained that the brakes were spongy. Turns out that the pads I was given were the wrong type, so as soon as I changed the pads the problem was solved.

  • Somewhere there is a crusty old machinist with an eye patch and 4 fingers watching your videos then talking shit about how you aren’t a real machinist since you still have all 10 digits.

  • you can test 7075 series of aluminum with calcium chloride solution, if it turns black or dark grey it's 7075. And for your extra bonus points if it's Magnesium use white vinegar and will also turn grey black bubbling. yes you can tig weld magnesium with the right filler and lots of argon.

  • "as you can see from the wear on the bolt hole, this'll probably get replaced sooner rather than later" Why not just make and press a delrin or brass bushing in? We do it all the time for old SU carburetors with steel throttle shafts. Years more service is left in those things

  • I just have to say here that the production value of your videos is quite impressive. So what were you in your former life, machine operator of film producer? You are definitely quite adept at both.
