7075, 7076... Whatever It Takes

Don't know if this was worth the effort, but was in a chatty mood. Come along for the ride as I sort out a few little things on a Factory Scorpa. We'll do bad things, I promise.

  • You could always add the metal on the bike frame itself under the pegs

  • A chain slack tensioner thing goes on the bottom there. It doesn’t actually create physical tension but it keeps the chain from being able to skip teeth by making the chain always fall on a set number of teeth.

  • Sagging pegs are usually due to elongated frame bolt holes, I didn't notice any shots showing if this was the case. If it is, modifying the peg instead of the frame holes will lead to further sagging and eventual tear out of the peg bolt. Ask me how I know :D

  • A cupped (worn) rotor will feel spongy because the pads won't bed properly. Also a thin rotor will experience brake fade because of heat. A warped rotor would be pretty obvious.

  • Why didn't you mention the frame as a option for correcting the pegs?? You have pegs mounted to a frame. .either can be used to resolve your problem...so what material is the frame where the pegs mount?? You can add your material there in various ways..

    • @This Old Tony You only needed a small thickness and you can tack it on for removal...i raced motorcycles for 15 years....it wouldn't do any harm if done right...which your capable of....it probably is damaged there as well?? Slightly but enough to add to the droop ..must have had a heavy rider to bend so much on a Trials bike!! I raced Motocross...

    • true, but that would result in a permanent modification to the frame.

  • 1:35 yeah they were wrong it's not that the rotor is warped it is tiny tiny variations in the thickness of the rotor. Also you most likely got incremental improvements with each repair you did that you didn't notice. But fuck the haters it is what you say it is.

    Betty HancockBetty Hancock20 күн мурун
  • Rotor warp is a bit of a misnomer, discs like these dont tend to warp. Pulsation and run-out is often caused by uneven distribution of burnt on brake linings, or cementation, (the pad material sticking to the disc, in uneven layers) and creating high spots or bumps on the rotor.

  • spongy brake. Tapered pads, buckled rotor or rotor worn or machined tapered. Or very maybe a pad sticking in the calliper. Or very maybe a brake hose flexing too much. I have repaired all of those.

  • How many people actually think a thin rotor couldnt cause soft brakes?? Well, you are all wrong. Hydraulics are simple, volume of master cylinder vs volume of slave cylinder + any extra wear compensation it must perform. Lets say the volume of the slave is 10cc at full pressure with all new components with a release of 5cc into master at rest. Lets say the master has a 7cc volume at rest and the ability to move 5cc at stroke. Well, now lets take some metal off the rotor and increase the volume needed for proper pressure by 3cc. You now have soft spongy brakes.

Well imagine my disappointment when I rewind and see nothing more than a common purple spring.
