  • Monster Hunter World is not a 10 out of 10 game. As someone with over 600 hours of MHW gameplay (Not even counting Icebourne), this game is an EXTREME farmfest. No one likes to talk about that GLARING flaw. I have fought Anjanath over 90 times just to get certain rare materials. I have fought the Elder Dragons 40+ times each just to get rare gems and jewels. It's all content thats REPEATED and reskinned stretched to 100s of hours just to farm the stuff you want. I put this game down for about a year because I was bored and only decided to return for Icebourne. It's a great game otherwise. It's just not the perfect one people say it is.

  • I have clocked in at 2k hours of MHW and still can not get enough of it. I think it would be great if you were to stream this game and play with your subscribers. Unfortunately, I myself am on Xbox, where the player base was practically absent to begin with compared to ps4 and pc lol.

  • Do you do much in the way of fighting games or hacknslash? Just curious. I dimagine a fair amount of appeal in a game for you comes from loadout customization and, obviously, seeing it play out effectively.

  • Throwing my two cents in: watched your stuff since I got back into Warframe over a year ago. Could definitely watch more Monster Hunter content from you. Was sad to see that I missed all your Monster Hunter content cause none of your VODS made it to your KGproject channel. I consume passively when I have time. It's also just good to see you branching out and having fun making content from other games.

  • This feels like an IGN review. C'mon, put some heart into it!

  • I'm on the lower end of the "obsessively possessed" side of MH players clocking in at 1.2k hours on World so far. I can honestly say that the only gripes I have with this game are the load times on console are not great and that, even though it makes massive improvements in this issue over older games, it still doesn't give you the information you NEED easily. For example, the very first thing I tell every new player to do is change Lock On from Focus Camera to Target Camera, and restrict what it can target to only Large Monsters. This lets you use the Lock On button to immediately center your view on the monster you're hunting with minimal effort mid-fight, improving your awareness when the monster flies around/charges past you but removes the issue of the camera getting stuck in geometry quite as often due to being fixed on the monster you're hunting like with Focus Camera. This option is buried in the freaking labyrinthine menu systems, so a lot of new players are gonna miss it and be frustrated with the awful lock on. This extends to tooltips and UI design as well, with such massively important features as custom inventory item presets and item wheel customisation being just as hard to notice without someone to point them out for you. The movelist in the training room and hunters notes could also do with being considerably more in depth as it leaves out a lot of useful information like how certain attacks with cutting weapons do actually deal impact damage and can potentially KO (like the Shield Bash of Sword and Shield, or the Great Sword's Shoulder Tackle). If the fact that I had to nitpick this hard to find flaws in this game doesn't clue you in on how complete this package is, I don't know what will. I've loved this series from its humble beginings and continue to do so. I think it's easily one of the best games of this generation.

    • The other setting I tell players is changing Auto Sheath to Manual, it gets annoying especially for Hunting Horn and Bowguns. And I think the hide helmet option should be on the front of the options tab alongside Settings. Last year I got a half off deal on a mid range gaming laptop that can run MHW on 1080p 60fps at near ultra settings (I have Volumetric disabled, almost reminds me of the blue filter Battlefield 3 used to have) and I have a NVME on it and the loading is wonderful. When Iceborne came out for PC I bought MHW with Iceborne despite having nearly 1500 hours on PS4. The loading and smoothness is great, but I do miss a few buddies on PS4 (had to sell it off because of $).

  • i think the thing about this game that is so great that a lot of people fail to praise, is the way it just doesn't really teach you anything. it shows you the barebones on how systems and weapons and stats and items work. and lets the player fumble with those systems. most games avoid letting the player fumble with its systems, because in the moment of learning it feels a little frustrating, BUT the pay out is when it clicks and you have that moment where you feel like you've found your own solution to the puzzle. even if that solution is 100% intended for you to do, it feels like you came up with the idea yourself, witch adds a lot to the feeling of overcoming the harder bossbois in this game. for example; i solo'd extreme behemoth as LS. and in that fight there are many many situations that arise that you need to solve. using the right items, the right gear, the right weapon, positioning, enemy "aoe management" (trying to not spoil anything for anyone), the list just goes on and on. and every problem you solve brings you closer to taking it down. to this day Solo extreme behemoth is one of my more proud accomplishments in videogames, no walkthroughs, completely blind, just trial and error.

  • I liked this game, and it was my first proper entry into the series, but I really don't think that this is 10/10. You are spot on about the story and matchmatching issues; but for me, the grinding and RNG is insane. Maybe it is my lack of skill in regards to the fights, but some of my hunts lasted 40+ minutes (with only fainting once) to get a handful of material needed to stay in line with gear grind. That is nuts, and it ruined the pacing of the game for me. If I need to grind the same monster like 15 times to stay even with my current mission armor/weapon needs, and do so again upon completion of my current mission for next one, I am likely to put down; so I did. After 150+ hours and just barely beating the Nergigante, I stopped playing it. I was SO disappointed when I got to the point in the story where the second tier opened up, and I had to regrind my armor from the first set of monsters for my armor to remain relevant. To me this game relies on a lot of built-in knowledge from previous games, or the willingness to search out community resources for players to get more knowledge. That is not good game design, the game should stand on its own and properly teach you how to succeed. In every other way, this game is amazing; from the graphics, the armor/weapon design, the locations, and the various interlocking systems that support the player.

  • I played the past games and I don't remember there being HALF as much bullshit. In past games it usually felt like if I died it was my fault, in MHW 4/5 deaths feel like utter bullshit. I thoroughly despise the massive amount of stuns and loss of player control this game has. And if you get CC'd it lasts a FUCKING ETERNITY where you can't do shit and then on top of that monsters will often two-shot you even in Defender armor. The game would be so amazing if only you had a quick time event that you could use to break any CC, different per CC, and if animations didn't lock you in place (Move direction to aim mid-animation), and Dodge/Block interrupted any other animation.

  • I feel like something of note is the sheer lack of any predatory microtransactions available in this game. It (unfortunately) needs to be mentioned whenever a modern game is reviewed. MHW (and Iceborne by extension) has extremely limited microtransacations. There are no loot crates to be seen in the game whatsoever, or anything resembling a loot crate system. You can (and have to) earn every piece of equipment you own from head to toe by actually playing the game. When you see another player who is at whatever rank, and has whatever gear it is that they have, you can be extremely confident that they earned everything they have on. The microtransactions is DOES have, are for honestly things most people have no interest in. Your partner (The Handler) has cheap costumes if you wanna Barbie doll her up. There are emotes in the game, and you can buy more cheaply. There are stickers for chat emotes, which once again are cheap one-time purchases. And with Iceborne you have a much more customizable house that they put some figures in that you can then put in and around your house. More Barbie stuff with a Monster Hunter spin, really. Just saying, it is such a breath of fresh air to know that there are no predatory microtransactions in the game, and none are coming. Before MHW was released, one of the main guys behind the game (I forget who, this was 2 years ago) was interviewed and asked why there are none, or to explain the absence of them. I don't have the quote, but it was something along the lines of "Why would you allow players to pay extra money to skip your game?" and I really think that's a quote more game developers need to get behind. MHW does microtransacations right, by extremely limiting them and making them pretty much irrelevant for actual gameplay (most can't/won't even be seen by other players, so no walking around with "status symbols" you paid for) and Capcom deserves major points for that.

    • Manos Papad The problem is that hunting monsters gets repetitive and boring quicker because of the gameplay issues I said world has. I’m sure the less rigid ai sounds better on paper but in reality it makes the game worse for me. In old games monsters had specific patterns that you would learn to recognise, and eventually exploit. Rajang would seem impossible at first, with how fast and powerful he is. However, after a couple hunts you start to realise the specific openings and timings to attack. In other words the game was more about learning your enemies moveset more than your own. There was an actual sense of improvement after every fight. With worlds new and improved ai, there’s almost none of that. The monsters move sets are almost entirely random, so you just kind of have to react to attacks on the spot. Again, sounds better right? The thing is that after the first fight with the monster you’ve kind of already seen everything. Now that you know its attacks, what else is there really to learn? Call me bad or whatever you want, but most of the time when farming a specific monster I never actually see an improvement in my times, or feel like I’m getting better at the game. There are multiple other issues with the gameplay I have but they’re not relevant here. Still, this game could still be enjoyable to me even after all the problems I have. Thats why the current endgame is a huge problem. I enjoyed the safi jiva fight itself at first, but what I don’t enjoy is how it ruins any kind of weapon variety. When iceborne came out I made a huge list of weapons I was planning on making. Then, a couple months later, safi jiva comes out and they’re all pretty much obsolete. Ive gone from having 10 - 20 different monsters I need to hunt, to 1 fight that has forced multiplayer. It gets boring real fast when you’re hunting that same monster for a hundred hours, with every fight being the same due to the issues I mentioned previously. The guiding lands is even worse. I seriously have to spend hours levelling up a single area and waiting for a specific monster to spawn just for a single part for a single augmentation on a single fucking weapon? Even if I didn’t have problems with the game that’s just not fun. It’s fine if you think the gameplay in world is way better. These are just *my opinions* , like I said I can still enjoy this game and I still think it’s good but the current endgame just ruins it.

      w.w.Ай мурун
    • @w. So just hunting giant monsters doesn't seem enjoyable to you? Then why you play a game called Monster Hunter?

      Manos PapadManos PapadАй мурун
    • @w. what is so hard to understand about the guiding lands, you hunt monsters, as area levels up you fight stronger ones. they all drop materials to augment, tempered ones do as well. that's it, that wasn't hard to understand for me m8. this is way better than any of the previous MHS endgames .focusing on grinding something and not enjoying the fights themselves is what makes it bad,i got all the decos i wanted by just not paying attention and doing whatever the hell i wanted, lot less grindy than "go get 5 billion resources"- signed warframe or "do this same shit like 30 times to get a slightly better thing than what you have"- signed destiny in my opinion. dont even care about augmenting, its like a passive goal to me,alot of these issues you state are for players who don't want to passively enjoy the game.

      noathegod 1noathegod 1Ай мурун
    • Nobody talks about: -The guiding lands, which is so unnecessarily convoluted that it turns a potentially great endgame into torture -Safi jiva which completely ruined any kind of weapon variety and goes against the core mechanics of MH. Not only that but it’s a fucking time limited quest, there’s much less to do while waiting for this guy since he has all the best weapons. -The shitty decoration farm that basically has the exact same problems as base world, tedious and unrewarding, albeit slightly better this time with the steam work melding tickets. -Augmenting weapons is physically painful when it’s tied to the guiding lands. -Many different features like clutch claw just make the game worse to play. The game is an 8/10 for me at best and that’s ignoring the other gameplay issues I personally have with world in general. It’s fun for maybe the first play through, up until you maybe finish up the optional quests and realise that there’s nothing really enjoyable to do.

The only issue I have is when watching tutorials coz mostly refer to joycon but a quick visit to the training room will fix it. Also, using items and actions seems to be easier since you have F1-F4 with 8 that you can bind on each function which is saved via item loadouts.

    • @Kyle Burden sure mabye, but his new ones arent unenjoyable to alot of people. i can read his old and new ones just fine, its not exactly STRICTLY bad game design, its preferance based. thats what i like about the monster hunter team wheteher everyone will like it or not they go all the way with their design choice, unlike floppy extremes over there in the corner who constantly flip flops on what the hell they want to design.

  • In terms of gameplay, how similar is it to Dauntless? The latter was somewhat disappointing to me and I'd rather not pay for something that I might not enjoy.

    • Monster hunter its what dauntless its based out off, world is just leagues above in termns of weapon diversity and the complexity atached to them. All weapons are fairly unique too, playing with long sword and then something like a light bow gun feels like playing 2 different games entirely. Give it a try, i think the base game its free to play with game pass for both xbox and pc so probably try it first, youll probably love it too.

    • If you like combos and extended movesets and thought the weapons of Dauntless were lacking... everything, MHW got your needs covered. Just be sure you dont pick up bowgun starting out cuz money early game is tight, especially the cost of bowgun ammo. Had a friend who picked up heavy bowgun (whom i told the same info to) and he ended up getting bored of it and left the game entirely because of heavy bowgun even though there were *13 OTHER WEAPONS to play and try out.* YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! 😂

  • hmm no mention of Guard Up grind? Id figure it would have you traumatized.

    • Guard up?? Ha! That's nothing compared to Minds eye jewel. Minds eye jewel is so hard of a grind, that Capcom had to give it away recently.
